CDS as an Alternative
Under the Missouri Medicaid program, Consumer-Directed Services (CDS) is an alternative option to in-home services (IHS). This home care approach allows clients to have a degree of control over who can take care of them. Their chosen personal care attendant may help with daily tasks as needed.
To assist patients in making the right decisions, we train them on the hiring process, schedule making, and personal care plan development. The program also allows patients to hire friends or family to work as a personal care attendant. However, spouses and those under 18 are not allowed.
Eligibility
There are requirements for a person to qualify for CDS. They must be:
- Medicaid eligible (MO HealthNet eligible) who also meet Missouri Division of Senior and Disability Services (DSDS) requirements
- 18 years of age or older
- Able to direct their own care
- With physical disability
- Capable of living independently with the services of CDS
- In need of at least a nursing-facility level of care
Once you’re accepted into the CDS program, you must forward a personal care plan so that you can begin receiving benefits.
